1 Quai d’Anjou, Paris
Pont Louis Philippe, Paris
While walking these streets it’s hard to believe that on a spring day like this at the end of March in 845AD, 120 viking ships and thousands of men arrived on this very bank and plundered the city during Easter. They would be paid 2,570kgs or 2.8 tons of silver and gold to leave. This would prove so successful they would return three more times in the 860’s to loot and pillage before being stopped the fifth time (thanks to local efforts at fortification) in 885AD .
