Late at night or during the early morning hours you’ll hear a long blast on the horn that signals a ship is underway. It’ll be gone in the morning, and the patient waiting on sunny days will have ended. Either the ice breaker has cut a final channel or the wind has carried away the ice long enough on a lucky year for the boats to make their break for open water. The final act of winter left behind.
